Reviews Editor – Jewellery History Today



* Responsible for the Reviews section of the magazine and the Recent Publications listing.

* Commissioning reviews of recent publications and relevant exhibitions, this may include consulting the SJH committee for suitable reviewers for any given book or exhibition.

* Liaising with PR departments of Publishers for the purposes of keeping up to date with recent publications, securing review copies of books that are suitable for review by the Society, and obtaining images to accompany book reviews.

* Liaising with PR departments of Museums or Galleries to confirm information regarding exhibitions that have been reviewed and to obtain images to use to illustrate exhibition reviews.

* Preparing a list of Recent Publications for each issue of Jewellery History Today.

* Editing submissions for the Reviews section of the magazine prior to copy going to the graphic designer for layout.

* Preparing images and captions to accompany written material submitted for the Reviews section.

* Reviewing proofs of the magazine before the magazine goes to print.

The role of Reviews editor will also require attendance at meetings of the Editorial Board of Jewellery History Today. The role should really be thought of as a member of a team, as many decisions regarding the magazine or reviews are decided by the Editorial Board. The role may involve posting or hand delivery of books to reviewers when necessary.
